Woody's Jerkwater
Jolene Carr

Walking into Woody's Saturday night my friend and I tried to squeeze through the crowd to grab some Amaretto Sours. We went light on the drinks, but dancing was another story.
D.J. Slammin' Sam's selections from Lady Gaga to Big N' Rich were as colorful and fun as the bar's guests, who included middle-aged regulars with a tower of empty bottles, a man celebrating Halloween a bit early as a bloody cop with a half-eaten face, and a bachelorette party with an inflatable fellow we were invited to sign. The variety of real men made us realize why Central New York fans of Table Hopping voted this the hot spot for pickups, including the cute bouncers decked in official Woody's t-shirts.
Woody's caters to the wallflowers of the bunch with their spacious seating area in the front and by the back bar with large televisions that also make it the perfect place to catch SU and NFL features, with tasty 30 cent chicken wings offered each game night. An outdoor patio serves as a retreat for overheated dancers, and as an extra bar on Friday and Saturday nights during the spring and summer seasons. The excitement of the city through a diverse group of visitors combines with string lights, wooden floors, license plates and comical signs to give the vibe of a hometown gem.
Bustin' a move's not your thing? Wednesday night brings Dave Hawthorne to Woody's from 9-1. KROCK rules Thursday nights in Mattydale from 10-12 with shot specials and games of water pong for those wishing to relive college memories the legal way. Each day Happy Hour gets workers relaxed with fifty cents off their drinks. One of the bar's biggest claims to fame is an annual Hallow's Eve bash where those with the sexiest, scariest and most original costumes are crowned.
Woody's Jerkwater Pub and Grub is located in Mattydale's Kmart Plaza. For good beer, a crazy crew, and perhaps a future fling, there's no other place to try.
