Seaway Navigation

by Nadine Van De Walker

You know its getting warmer in Central NY when dinner cruises start up at Seaway Navigation and Tours, located in Brewerton on the river. This is an experience you don’t want to miss. Talk about a great time! You are extended a welcoming hand aboard by Steve, and you’re greeted by a warm friendly staff attending to your every need. The cabin has a warm and nautical theme with knotty pine walls and brass fixtures. The tables are adorned with blue table cloths, while life preservers hang overhead. There are two full glass doors on each side of the boat providing a wonderful view. There is a full service bar with a sign above it with the good-time warning: “What happens aboard stays aboard.”

You can make reservations for a dinner, lunch or a tour - enjoy some great food while taking an enjoyable trip down the Erie Canal. Dinner consists of a choice of: Beef Tips with mushroom gravy, Smoked Caribbean Ribs, Crab-stuffed Filet of Sole with roasted tomato sauce or Chicken Kiev. Each entree comes with soup, dinner rolls, garden salad, choice of rice or garlic mashed potato and dessert. The cost of the dinner cruise is $47.50 for adults and $25.00 for children. The dinner cruise lasts for two and half hours, and requires reservations – as do any of the cruises that serve food. Dinner cruises leave at 5:30pm, and return at 8pm. You can choose from a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night starting in mid May through late September.

Lunch cruises are on select dates, and are two hours long usually starting as early as 11am or 12:30 at the latest. Check out the website for specific times at HYPERLINK "http://www.seawaynavigationandtours.com" www.seawaynavigationandtours.com. Your choices of entrees for lunch include: Pulled Pork platter, with baked beans and macaroni salad; or Breaded Chicken on a bed of rice pilaf, garnished with roadster red pepper, scallion and cheddar jack cheese. All entrees include garden salad and dessert. The cost of a lunch cruise is $29.00 for an adult and $18.00 per child.

Sunday Brunch can’t be outdone! These cruises are two hours long and are an all-you-can-eat buffet, featuring a custom omelet station. The cruises leave from Brewerton and on time.

The M/V Mystère, your vessel for the cruises, was built in the Baldwinsville boat yard in June, 1979. When Stephenie and Jeff Pyle purchased the boat as a way to spend their retirement, they had no idea how much time it was going to take to restore it. Jeff spent months rebuilding it to his dream ship. Once on board, you will be impressed with all of his hard work. There is a spiral staircase that leads to the upper deck, where you will enjoy the sunshine during the daylight hours, or the stars at night.

Once you have experienced the dinner cruise or just taken the sightseeing tour, you will be delighted to know that Seaway Navigation and Tours also offers private parties on board. Book your next event, and leave all the planning up to them – even ground transportation; they’ll make bus arrangements to have you picked up and dropped off. What a great party plan for your next high school or college reunion” Choose to have appetizers and drinks with a DJ, or just drinks and a DJ.

In July, you can watch the fireworks on Oneida Lake in Brewerton aboard the Mystère. Start with the dinner cruise and then opt to stay aboard for the fireworks! The ship will dock back in Brewerton after the dinner cruise, picking up new guests who have reserved just the fireworks. There are also specialty cruises offered, including wine tastings, murder mysteries, and children’s interactive pirate cruises. There is truly something for everyone.

I hope to see many of you through out the summer because there are a couple of these I won’t miss!
