Coleman’s isn’t the only hilltop treat in Syracuse. Located on the corner of West Fayette and Ulster lies historic Nibsy’s Pub, a spot that has preserved its Irish roots and close ties to the community for a century and counting. Each day until the 2 a.m. closing, the pub greets friendly faces like the local kickball, softball and volleyball teams it sponsors; Joe Mullen’s fellow Syracuse firefighters who have helped him run the business for his 20 years of ownership; and the grandkids of former manager and Grand Marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade William “Nibsy” Ryan. Although this lassie settled for a reasonably-priced mixed drink, signs promise a variety of beverages, ranging from brews like Guinness to a glass of French champagne. Nibsy’s even incorporates a taste of the Emerald Isle into an Italian favorite with its Red or White Reuben pizza special, topped with corned beef, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, Swiss and mozzarella cheese. All pizzas are made with fresh dough straight from the area’s own Columbus Bakery, while the rest of the pub menu is composed of simple favorites like wraps and salads - all for a decent price.
