It’s summer, time to get out and investigate new fun spots. This month, my wanderings took me to the newest of the new, Caddy Shack Tavern in Liverpool. Located close by Ichiban Japanese Steak House, Caddy Shack is easy to get to and even easier to enjoy. Owners Joe Dixie and Kevin Kline thought the area was ready for a fun, relaxed, party place where you can meet your friends and just hang out in an “anything goes” atmosphere. It’s like being in your own backyard!

Caddy Shack is open seven days a week, and there’s always something going on. Wednesday is karaoke night, where you can get up in the spotlight and sing your favorite tunes. Thursday is ladies’ night, with drink specials and great scenery. Friday kicks off the weekend with a band on the patio from 6 pm to 9 pm. Hang by the outdoor bar, enjoy the $2 Bud and Bud Light specials, or grab a picnic table and enjoy the music. I even learned something from the patio – I’m not a beer drinker, and I’d always assumed Yuengling was an exotic import, possibly from Japan or the South Seas, traveling thousands of miles from faraway lands just to refresh we thirsty Americans. Tin signs adorn the patio walls, and from one of them I learned that Yuengling is made in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The oldest brewery in America. I am amazed.

But back to the fun - when the band winds down, head inside for the hottest DJs around from 9 pm to 2 am. The DJ comes back Saturday night, playing a mix of rock, pop, even disco, so you can dance the night away. Saturday was the night I picked to visit, and my friends and I were soon settled at the bar enjoying a cocktail served by the lovely and charming Janelle, playing computer games, and listening to DJ Small Fry spin tunes. The game selection is endless. You can bowl with a polar bear, flip quarters into shot glasses, play Pig Latin, keep a drunk walking upright, knock out your opponent, play five kinds of poker, or try to spot the differences in pictures (just like Highlights magazine, but with hot babes!).

But Caddy Shack had more in store than just computer games. A limo pulled up, chauffering a bachelorette party of gorgeous girls planning a last fun night of freedom. The pretty bride came in wearing a tiny veil, while her bridesmaids were wearing even tinier tops. Soon we were all offering advice on how the bride-to-be could fulfill her evening’s tasks. There were dice and a deck of cards suggesting slightly naughty missions, and a scavenger list of items to be procured by night’s end. FYI for the fellas - there seemed to be a lot of kissing bald guys in the cards, so plan ahead!

The girls were definitely up for fun, and they were soon surrounded by guys happy to volunteer for service. Brave boys – depending on the roll of the dice, they might lose their boxers, have to show off their body piercings, or give up their cell phones to a group of girls whose goal it was to hit “redial” and talk to anyone who answers. The party grew louder, and there was a lot of risqué business going on. All innocent, of course. Because as we learned that night, it’s important to remember – what happens in Caddy Shack, stays in Caddy Shack!

Sunday is fun day at Caddy Shack, with more karaoke and drink specials. Or tear yourself away from the fun, kick back and watch your favorite team bring home a victory. My beloved Yanks are right there at the top of their division, so I’ll be glued to the screen. Baseball season is winding down, but football’s just around the corner, basketball follows, and hockey, of course, never ends. For those of you who like to participate, Caddy Shack sponsors softball teams, so get your players together and call up! There are still fall leagues you can join. Golf may appear in the spring, and as we head into cooler nights, plan on coming indoors for the pool and dart leagues.
Caddy Shack is a great place to hold your office happy hour. Drop your business card in for a chance at a complimentary party with free food and drink specials. And there’s a Customer Appreciation / End of Summer Pig Roast happening Saturday, September 23. Join the crowd on the patio for good eats and great fun from 3 pm on into the night. It’s a great way to celebrate the change of seasons!
Caddy Shack is located at 402 Old Liverpool Road, near Ichiban Japanese Steak House. It’s a quick hop from the Old Liverpool Road exit off Route 81, or just down the road from Carousel Mall. There’s plenty of parking in the big lot out front. Caddy Shack is open seven nights a week, from 4 pm to 2 am. Get your pals together, and get there! Call 315-413-0475 for more information. And have a great time!
