Visitors are sure to enjoy the Tavern’s quirky décor that includes a mix of artwork, checkered flags, license plates, risqué signs, and the tavern’s trademark hanging brassieres. This ritual got its start when owner Cindy Schaap was surprised to find a black one left behind on her first night in business and threw it up on the wall in hopes the owner would later claim it. The fun-and-games style all blends in nicely with a fireplace and large television that gives the atmosphere a cozy vibe similar to a basement lair. Although Tuesday’s dollar draft special from 7-11 p.m. draws a younger crowd, the joint usually attracts an older group that still knows how to have fun. Thursday promises one of the busiest nights, with local country stars TJ Sacco and Hank coming out for Ladies’ and Biker Nite. Fridays also offer a variety of live music featured on the small corner stage, while Saturdays during the winter season welcome a large crowd once the neighboring races clear out. A simple “Pub Grub” dine-in and carry-out menu gives guests an opportunity to have something on the side with their long necks or soda pitchers, like a smothered chicken sandwich with fries and a pickle, or Tenders and Fries for $6.00. Fresh fish is available on Fridays, while Tuesdays and Wednesdays feature $4.00 wing specials with a variety of sauces. On the side of the bar area, a small white-walled hall decorated with graffiti leads to a Pavilion advertised as “Outback at the Track” that’s perfect for bachelor or graduation parties. Schaap welcomes any athletic teams looking for a sponsor, and already supports several softball players, dart and pool leagues. Between the friendly bartenders, bras and wide selection of entertainment and brews, you’re bound to have fun here.
