Saltine Warrior - Syracuse
Kerilyn Micale
Are you sick of crowded bars where you have to wait in line for an hour just to get a beer? How about those places that haven’t been updated since the 70’s and have the spider webs to prove it? How about places that brag about how many TV’s they have but when you show up, you find that they are TV’s that even your grandma would think is out dated? The Saltine Warrior Sports Pub located at 214 W. Water St. has solutions to all of these problems and more! They open at 11am and stay open until the party stops (or 2 am Whatever happens first!)
The Saltine Warrior is modern, clean and new! It’s the kind of place that you could go for lunch, eat a fresh and tasty meal (not just greasy bar food) and then decide to spend your evening there watching the game! There are plenty of booths to sit and enjoy a meal, a beer and a conversation. There is a huge bar in the center with a ton of seating in comfortable bar stools. There is also an open kitchen where you can actually watch the chef prepare the food you are about to eat right in front of you! No matter where you sit, rest assured that you will be able to clearly see one of the many very large new flat screens so that you don’t miss one second of that game you wanted to see! If you don’t care about the game you can also play darts, Big Buck Hunter or play your favorite tunes on the online jukebox!

The really cool thing about the Saltine Warrior are the Tap Tables. If you’ve never seen them before, take my word for it that they are very neat! Basically, they are tables with two keg taps under them. Here, the kegs are always from local brewers (when I went there was Middle Ages Whaling Wench and Empire Amber Ale). You give the bartender your credit card, tell them how many beers you’d like to be able to pour and which tap or both taps you want turned on. You then sit at your table and pour your beer freely until the tap automatically kicks off when you’ve reached your preset limit! It takes out the waiting at the bar and guarantees that you always have a cold frosty brew in your glass!
The Saltine Warrior is a craft beer drinkers dream! They have a huge selection of craft beers on tap that change seasonally. When I went they had Shocktop, Ommegang BPA, Goose Island 312 (urban white wheat), Southern Tier IPA, Dogfish 60 Min IPA, Great lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, Sam Adam’s Winter, Sam Adam’s Lager, UFO Raspberry, Spaten Oktoberfest, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Harp Lager. They also have Bud Lite and Guinness on tap. If you are not a beer lover, worry not because in addition to everything I’ve listed above, they have a full bar.
The food at the Saltine Warrior will surpass any expectations you’ve had about bar food. They have delicious appetizers in their starting lineup, homemade tomato or chicken noodle soup, fresh salads, deli sandwiches and Panini’s. They also have a grilled chicken club, an 8 oz sirloin steak sandwich and a hot turkey sandwich with fries and homemade gravy. They have jumbo wings, boneless wings and NY style pizza made in house daily with fresh dough, sold by the pie or the slice. They have the usual pizza toppings as well as specialties like Philly cheese steak, chicken philly and buffalo chicken. They also have homemade tabouli and a Lebanese vegetarian platter.
If you are looking to save some cash (and really, who isn’t?!) the Saltine Warrior has exactly what you are looking for. Come down and check out their Monday Night Specials and their $5 Menu. On Monday’s the following items are just $5 a piece: 12 wings, cheese pizza, nachos, chicken tenders, garden or Caesar salad, bacon mozzarella fries, spicy fried ravioli or a char grilled burger! They also have pre-game specials for Cuse games and Bud Lite Pints are only $2.50!
The Saltine Warrior is the best place to watch every SU game, home or away, basketball or football! They also have the NFL ticket so on Thursdays and Sundays you definitely won’t miss that game you’ve been dying to see! With their perfect set up of places to sit and huge TV’s, delicious food and huge selection of craft beer the Saltine Warrior is exactly where you want to be! Do yourself a favor, get there and see what you’ve been missing!
